Basic Guidelines

An ATM® (Awareness Through Movement) session is of approximately 50min, where you will be guided verbally through various sequences of movements.
Find enough space to lay down and a comfortable surface to lay onto ( thick yoga mat or blanket ).

-
Move within a comfortable range Slow down the tempo, lower the range. Avoid strain, pain and struggling. We will bring our attention to the quality of our movements, our breath, not the quantity. Staying within a comfortable range of movement will allow you to observe small details.

-
Take rests whenever you need them even if you haven't been asked to do so! If you do feel any discomfort during the session, please stop, rest, and join again when you feel ready. Sometimes your body needs a rest, sometimes it is your attention who needs a rest! If you are finding yourself moving mechanically or being distracted by your thinking, pause and refresh.

-
Let go of trying to "achieve" something We are bringing our attention to the HOW rather than to the WHAT. Focus on what is available to you right now and observe how you work within your own comfortable range. Don't worry about how the movement "should" be done but give yourself permission to be playful and investigative.

-
Use your imagination You will be sometimes invited to only imagine the movement suggested. Imagination is the very special place where the movement begins. This is especially useful if you have any discomfort with a particular movement. Stop and imagine the movement.

-
Take care of yourself Especially in this particular set up of online classes, it is your responsability to know your limits. Don't do anything that doesn't feel safe, don't force your body into places it doesn't agree to go.

-
Make mistakes! Did you ever observe how a baby learns a new skill? At that age, children are highly curious and adventurous, but they are driven towards pleasurable experiences. Rediscover that state of mind, give yourself the permission to laugh, fail, be confused, make mistakes and rock and roll on the floor!
